This was a cross cutting effort across multiple domains including Product Manufacturing, 3D CAD Modeling, IoT Hardware and Software systems development and BIG data analytics.
Improved Water Use Efficiency during irrigation is critical to sustained growth and well being of the planet. UAS Bengaluru wanted a custom solution to simulate drought conditions and measure the resistance of plants to varying conditions to determine which crop varieties are best for Water Use Efficiency.
We have setup a solution for them that uses gravimetry to maintain the plants under test at specific soil moisture levels to simulate varying levels and velocity of drought . The data about the plants including evaporation and transpiration rates are monitored realtime using our IoT framework. The end users (researchers and students) are able to configure different treatment for each plant or a collection of plants using our custom web UI. A rich data-pipeline along with user friendly graphs provide them the right tools to determine which crop varieties work best.
The system has seem multiple cycles of cropping and experimentation and this facility is now a pioneer for drought research in the country.
The system has applications in other domains which need managed irrigation across a large number of plants along with state of the art automated monitoring and management.
